Oh, Colorado. xD You have such crazy weather. Yesterday, before the concert the weather was beautiful. Sunny, warm... if I had to guess, I'd say it was around 60 or 65 degrees. When we were standing in line for the doors of the Gothic to open, it was getting a little chilly on account of the breeze. When we got out of the show... goddamn was it cold. xD It had been (and still was) snowing in Fort Collins, so we got to drive home in the first snow of the season. It only just stopped snowing a short while ago.
I heard someone say once that Colorado is great because you can experience all four seasons in a matter of a few days to a week. How very true.
But anyway. Last night was the KMFDM concert. :D I'm putting the events of the night under a cut, since I think it's going to be really long.
The band was doing a meet and greet at a place in Denver in the afternoon, so Nic, Shannon and I headed down to go to that. What we thought was going to be a record/music store ended up being this awesome little clothes place. They sell Goth type stuff, like Hot Topic, but they had a much better selection than Hot Topic (and everything was more reasonably priced, too). I didn't have anything for the band to sign, so I was just going to get one of Shannon's shirts signed. However, I found this cute little military style bag that I had them sign.
The members of this band are really the first celebrities I've ever met, but I surprisingly wasn't nervous about meeting them at all. I ended up talking for a minute or two with Jules, one of the guitarists. They were definitely great people, especially for taking time out of their schedules to do something like this for the fans before a show.
After we finished up at the signing, we headed over to Nic's mother's apartment. Jackie wanted to take us out to dinner, since we didn't get a chance to do that with her at NDK. We ended up going to Pappadeux's, which is always a great place to eat. xD
Finally, it was time to go to the concert. Before the event started, Shannon and I bought stuff at the vendor booth. xD She got some shirts and a hoodie, while I got a button pack and a lanyard I'm going to use once October is over.
The two main acts were KMFDM and Angelspit, with the local band New Waveforms opening. I have to say that I wasn't that impressed with the New Waveforms. They were definitely terrified for the first three or four songs, and it showed. They did loosen up after that, but since they only played about seven or eight songs... that really didn't give them enough time to make an awesome impression on the audience.
Next up was Angelspit, and I was amazed at the difference between them and the New Waveforms. Both members of the band were incredibly relaxed and confident, as well as having an amazing stage presence. They totally kicked ass, and I'm definitely going to have to track down some of their music for my collection.
One thing I will say before moving on to KMFDM. I was really impressed with the road crew on this tour and how efficient everything was. In a lot of the past concerts I'd been to, set-up for the next band took anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes. They rarely start on time and it gets boring waiting around for everything to be set up. This show was completely different. The show started at roughly the time stated on the ticket, and the set-up from the New Waveforms to Angelspit only took about 10 to 15 minutes, tops. I didn't think we were going to get out of the Gothic before midnight or 12:30, but the show ended at around 11:30.
KMFDM. All I can say is that show fucking rocked. This was the first concert I've been to where I felt like I had emotionally vested everything I had into the performance, and I was not disappointed. They sound fantastic live, and they played a really great mix between their old and new stuff (they do have 25 years worth of material to choose from, after all). They ended up performing a lot of my favorites, and it was definitely a great time.
Somehow, we always end up standing close to the mosh pit. xD I don't even know how that happens, but every single time we go to one of these types of shows, it does. Nic told us that Denver is considered one of the 'hardest' cities to go to; i.e. how intense the mosh pits are. KMFDM was no exception. It was pretty entertaining to watch, even if there were some people I wanted to punch in the back of the head. It was definitely amusing to watch Shaun's girlfriend toss around guys twice her size when they ran into her.
After the concert finished, we headed over to Tracks for Deathwish. Since it was my first time going there, I didn't quite know what to expect. I was actually kind of disappointed by the size of the crowd, since I had heard stories about there being a ton of people at these things. However, we didn't get there until about midnight or 12:15, so maybe the time had something to do with it. We stayed there until about 1:45, when they started kicking everyone out so they could close. And then we began the long drive home. We did finally make it back to the apartment at about 3:45.
So, yeah! That was my night last night. xD My throat still hurts from all of the screaming and yelling I did, so I consider that a good sign. It was definitely a memorable experience.
