I'm a Canon fan. I've owned a Canon Rebel 2000 (GOD I MISS THAT CAMERA T_T) and currently have a Canon Powershot A520. My only complaint about it is if the batteries start to go it feels like it takes ages to actually take a picture. But no problems otherwise~
As far as batteries go, while rechargable might be cheaper in the long run, I, personally, feel better knowing that if it should happen to start dying in the middle of a trip with no plugs nearby, I can just pop two batteries in and keep chugging along. But then I've never used a rechargable one before. ^^;
